Site plan
A site plan holds everything Jobyo knows about one building: its floors, the drawings you import for each floor, the locations (rooms, areas, apartmentsโฆ) found and created from those drawings, and the equipment you place on them. A site plan always belongs to a worksite โ open it from a project's Site Plan tab once the project is linked to one.
Who uses thisโ
Anyone with view access can open a site plan to see what's already mapped. Building it out โ importing drawings, reviewing what Jobyo found, drawing by hand, and managing the location tree โ is a back-office job for operations and administrators. Field technicians don't normally touch the editor.
What you'll needโ
Site Plans: Viewto open the Site Plan tab, browse the location tree, and export a floor's DXF.Site Plans: Createto set up a new plan or a floor's content for the first time.Site Plans: Modifyto import/replace/remove a drawing, map its layers, review and create locations from what's found, edit building services, or remove something from the drawing.Location Nodes: Modifyto draw walls, rooms, or areas by hand, edit a boundary, or manage the location tree (retype, detach, archive).Location Nodes: Createto add a floor. Building-wide import/blank-outline actions and setting a building's north direction also needLocation Nodes: Modify.
Open the Site Plan tabโ
Open the project and go to its Site Plan tab. If the project has no worksite yet, you'll see a prompt to link or create one first โ only someone who can modify the project can do that.
Once a worksite is linked, you'll see a summary line โ for example "3 floors ยท 42 locations ยท 30 on drawing" โ with one row per floor showing its name, whether it has a drawing, and how many of its locations are on that drawing. The summary is read-only; its one action is Open editor, which opens the full-screen editor on this worksite's plan.
Browse the location treeโ
Inside the editor, the Locations panel lists everything saved on the worksite as a tree โ buildings, floors, apartments/units/offices, rooms and areas, with equipment nested inside. Branches start folded except whatever you're currently working on; use a row's โฎ โ Expand all / Collapse all to open or close a whole branch at once. Floors sort by level, so "Floor 2" comes before "Floor 10".
Every saved location with an outline on its floor's drawing is marked On drawing; one without an outline there is marked Not on drawing.
Clicking a room, area, equipment pin, or found item on the canvas opens and highlights the matching row in the Locations (or Found in drawing) panel โ and the other way around, clicking a row selects it on the canvas and jumps to its floor.
Download a floor's DXFโ
Anyone who can view the plan can export a floor โ exporting never changes anything.
Open the floor's menu
In the Locations tree, open a floor's โฎ menu and choose Download floor DXF. This is enabled once the floor has a drawing and the editor has been reopened once since.
Pick a format
Full drawing โ a complete layout Jobyo generates from the floor's reviewed plan. Overlay for your drawing โ only Jobyo's additions (rooms, equipment, services) in your original drawing's coordinates, ready to attach as an XREF onto your own CAD file. Overlay is only offered when the floor has an imported DXF base.
Download
Click Download DXF.
The export is always a separate, generated file โ your uploaded CAD file is never rewritten. It includes walls, doors and locations, placed equipment with clearances, and building services, stamped LAYOUT ONLY โ NOT FOR SIZING.
Add a floor and set up a buildingโ
Add a floor
Open a floor's โฎ menu and choose Add floor (or use the Add floor button on an empty canvas). Give it a name and a level โ an integer, negative for a basement, 0 for the ground floor. Two floors can't share a level; rename or renumber one if you hit that block.
Act on a whole building at once
A building row's โฎ menu offers three bulk actions across every floor in that building: Import one plan for this building's floors (one DXF covering several floors โ Jobyo previews a dry-run match before you commit), Blank outlines for this building's floors (a simple rectangular outline for every floor that doesn't already have a shape), and Set north direction.
Set north direction
Enter an angle in whole degrees, clockwise from straight up (0โ359), or use the 0ยฐ/90ยฐ/180ยฐ/270ยฐ quick buttons, then Save. The compass arrow on the canvas turns to match for every floor in that building โ the drawing itself never rotates โ and the same arrow carries into DXF exports.
A floor that isn't nested under a building can't use the building-row actions. While any such floor exists, the Locations panel header carries its own Floors without a buildingโฆ menu with the worksite-wide versions of Import and Blank outlines.
Import a DXF drawingโ
Importing and mapping a drawing happens in the Floor drawing manager โ open it from a floor's โฎ menu (Add drawing, or Manage drawing once one exists).
Import the file
Click Import a DXF and choose a
.dxffile. If it has no units defined, pick one (metres, millimetres, feetโฆ) before anything is read. Replace file swaps in a different drawing later; Remove drawing clears the import (anything you've already created in Jobyo is kept).Map what each layer means
For every CAD layer, pick a role: Building outline (required), Wall, Rooms, Doors, Windows & glazing, Existing equipment, Columns, Railings, Decoration, or Ignore. Jobyo suggests a mapping automatically where it can (remembered from a previous drawing, or detected). Click Extract once every layer's role is set.
Review what Jobyo read
You'll see how many rooms were found, with doorways and anything already saved. From here: Create all rooms in one step, Review on the plan for an item-by-item pass, or Add equipment symbols from the drawing if the equipment layer matched your catalog.
A file that isn't plain-text (ASCII) DXF is refused โ re-export from your CAD software as ASCII, not binary. A whole-building drawing is best split and imported per floor rather than as one file.
Add equipment from the drawingโ
Click Add equipment symbols from the drawing to match CAD symbols to your equipment catalog and create them as real equipment records at their exact drawing position โ inside the smallest already-created room that contains that point, or on the floor if none does. Jobyo checks your company's own custom catalog first, then its built-in catalog; matching ignores letter case. Running it again never duplicates equipment that's already been added โ it only picks up what's still missing, which is also how you recover symbols that didn't match the first time (after fixing a custom equipment type's CAD block name).
Review what's found in the drawingโ
Every imported drawing produces candidate rooms and areas waiting for a decision โ open the Found in drawing (N) tab alongside Locations.
For each item you can Select or Ignore it, Rename it (the original drawing label is kept as a reference), Retype it (Room, Area, Apartment, Unit, or Office), group two or more selected items into a new apartment/unit/office container, assign or detach a room from a container, or edit its boundary (drag corners, insert or remove a vertex). Delete permanently removes a found item โ unlike Ignore, this can't be undone.
Use Search and the All / To review / Selected pills (plus Ambiguous / Skipped once they apply) to filter the list, and Select all to tick or clear everything the current filter shows โ even on a worksite with thousands of items, the list stays smooth to scroll.
Jobyo sometimes adds a note read from your drawing's own labels โ for example that an outline holds more than one unit's labels (likely merged through an unsealed door) or that an item is much larger than similar units on the floor. These are advisory only: Jobyo never resizes, retypes, or renames anything on its own โ open the boundary, and use Split a region or Edit boundary if the note is right.
Split a regionโ
If a found item really covers two rooms (a shape spanning a corridor and a room, say), split it before creating it โ split only works on an item that hasn't been created yet.
Draw the cut line
Select the item, click Split, then click points across the region from one edge to the opposite edge. Double-click, or press Preview, when you're done.
Preview and confirm
Preview shows the two resulting pieces with their name and area. Click Confirm split to save, or Cancel to discard it.
Every cut-line problem โ too short, doesn't cross the region, crosses more than twice, a piece too small โ is explained in plain language with exactly what to fix.
Create locations from what's foundโ
Selecting an item doesn't create anything by itself โ Create is the step that turns it into a real Jobyo location (or links it to an existing one). An apartment, unit, office, area, or room found in the drawing becomes the matching Jobyo location type; retype it first if a guess was wrong.
Click Create (it names what it will make โ e.g. Create 3 rooms in Jobyo) for your selection, or Create all rooms for a whole floor. When your selection includes a container with un-created rooms inside it, a toggle Also create its rooms (on by default) creates both together in one step. Jobyo reports, per item: Created, Needs your input (ambiguous match, type mismatch, or blocked โ resolve these to continue), or Skipped (an invalid shape, no name, or genuinely outside the floor outline โ a shape that only just touches or crosses the outline is now accepted automatically instead of being skipped). Each skip tells you exactly why and offers a fix: for a shape outside the floor, Fit to floor trims it to the floor outline in one click; if that isn't safe (no overlap with the floor, or trimming would cut away more than 10% of it), use Edit boundary instead. For a shape flagged as several units merged into one, Jobyo offers Split instead of Fit to floor.
If a big Create batch stops partway through, press Retry โ it resumes the same operation and never creates anything twice.
See where a location came fromโ
Any room, area, apartment, unit, or office created from an imported drawing carries a read-only "From drawing" block in its edit form: a Layer line (the CAD layer it came from, or how it was otherwise detected โ recovered from walls, drawn as a container, or split from another region) and the drawing's Original label, so you can still find it on the source drawing after renaming it.
Remove something from the drawingโ
Use Remove from drawing when you want a location or equipment pin off the drawing without deleting the record itself:
- An equipment pin comes off the drawing; the equipment record stays and can be placed again later.
- A room or area outline is cleared and the location stays โ its region goes back to Found in drawing so it (or someone else) can map it again.
Open the item's โฎ menu (or Remove inside its edit form) to use it. A location with its own uploaded drawing file uses Remove drawing in the Drawing Manager instead, since that also drops the file.
Draw manuallyโ
With or without an imported drawing, you can draw directly on the floor.
- Walls (
W) โ click each point, snapping to nearby points/walls/grid; double-click to finish. Select a wall to Delete it, Undo last wall, or Clear walls (every hand-drawn wall on the floor โ undoable). - Rooms (
R) and Areas (G) โ drag a rectangle or click a freeform polygon's corners, then name it in the inspector. - Building services (
D) โ Ductwork or Pipework runs with a centreline height and system, plus terminals (diffusers, grilles, outlets) along the run. NeedsSite Plans: Modify. - Measure (
M) โ click two points to read the distance; never changes the drawing.
Every hand-drawn shape must sit inside the floor boundary, meet a minimum area of 0.25 mยฒ, and can't cross itself โ Jobyo names the specific problem in plain language if a shape is rejected.
Navigate large plansโ
Scroll to zoom (toward your cursor); โ/Ctrl+0 fits the floor to screen. Pan (H) by dragging. On a dense floor, equipment markers simplify to dots and then numbered clusters as you zoom out โ whatever's selected always keeps its full marker. โ/Ctrl+A selects all equipment on the floor; arrow keys nudge a selected item 0.25 m (Shift for 0.05 m).
Add a repeating structure in bulkโ
For a building that follows a repeating pattern โ every floor has the same apartments or guest rooms โ fill in a form (levels, room kinds, counts, naming pattern, optional equipment) rather than placing each location by hand. It's a deterministic form you review before anything is created; it doesn't generate anything with AI. Open it from the Locations panel's layers icon (Batch add structure). It's the same form used for a worksite's directory โ see Manage worksites for the full field-by-field walkthrough.
Manage the location treeโ
- Retype a location between Room, Area, Apartment, Unit, and Office โ blocked once it already holds other locations.
- Detach one or more rooms/areas out of a container back to the floor directly.
- Archive a location from its โฎ menu โ blocked while it still has live sub-locations or linked work orders, equipment, tasks, schedules, or cost records (you'll see exactly what's linked).
Using Site Plan with an AI assistantโ
Once your company has connected an AI assistant through Jobyo's connector and accepted the site-plan data disclosure (a separate consent step your admin is prompted for the first time anyone asks about a plan), you can ask it to read and help review a draft plan within your own permissions.
It can describe a plan's floors and what's found in each floor's drawing, and โ with Site Plans: Modify โ select/un-select/ignore found items, rename or retype them, group rooms into a container, assign or clear a room's container, and edit a found item's boundary. Creating the actual Jobyo locations, and resolving an ambiguous match, are still a manual step in the app. An accepted plan is read-only to the assistant too, and any change is refused if the floor changed since it last read it โ you're asked to re-read and re-decide, nothing is silently overwritten.

If it doesn't workโ
| Symptom | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "There's already a floor at that level" | Two floors would share the same level number. | Give the new floor a different level, or renumber the existing one first. |
| "This file is not a valid ASCII DXF" | The uploaded file is not plain-text DXF. | Export as ASCII DXF (not binary) from your CAD software and try again. |
| "No layer is mapped as a Wall" / 0 rooms warning | No CAD layer was tagged as a wall or room before Extract. | Map at least a Wall and a Rooms layer, then Extract again. |
| "Matches an existing location of another type" | A found item overlaps a location of a different kind. | Retype, rename, or ignore the item to resolve it. |
| Download floor DXF is greyed out | The floor has no drawing yet, or the editor hasn't been reopened since one was added. | Add a drawing to the floor, then close and reopen the editor. |
| "This floor already has the maximum of 100 hand-drawn walls" | The per-floor hand-drawn wall cap was reached. | Clear or simplify some existing walls first. |
| "Locked: {what's linked}" | The location still has open work orders, equipment, tasks, schedules, or cost records attached. | You can still rename it or edit its boundary; resolve the linked records to change its type or delete it. |
| "Stopped after {count} of {total}" on Create | A large Create batch was interrupted (e.g. a connection hiccup). | Press Retry โ it resumes safely and never creates anything twice. |
